Alkhair Restaurant

Alkhair Restaurant is one of Kuala Lumpur's most beloved Middle Eastern dining destinations, serving authentic Yemeni and Arab cuisine from its location in Kampung Berembang, Jalan Ampang Kiri. With chefs from across the Middle East and a menu rooted in traditional village recipes, Alkhair has built its reputation on the kind of food that brings families and communities together.

The restaurant serves three distinct customer segments: Arab tourists and expats seeking the taste of home, Malaysian locals exploring authentic regional cuisine, and the broader Kuala Lumpur food community discovering Yemeni flavors for the first time. Each segment speaks a different language, browses different platforms, and orders through different channels — and the brand needed to meet all of them where they were.

To grow beyond its loyal walk-in customer base and compete with KL's increasingly digital food scene, Alkhair needed more than a brochure website. They needed a connected digital operation — multilingual, omnichannel, and engineered to handle orders, reservations, catering, and delivery as a single system. WellsGroup was engaged to design, build, and operate that platform.

Business Context & Challenges

Alkhair's challenge wasn't the food — the food was already exceptional. The challenge was making that food accessible to every kind of customer, in every channel they used to discover, order, and book.

Before WellsGroup's involvement, the restaurant faced five core constraints:

01

Single-language barrier

A trilingual customer base — Arab, Malay, and English-speaking — was being served by a website and ordering experience available in only one language, limiting reach and trust.

02

No direct online ordering

Customers wanting to order from Alkhair directly had no native ordering channel, forcing every transaction through third-party apps and eroding margin on every order.

03

Fragmented delivery presence

Listings on GrabFood, Foodpanda, and ShopeeFood were managed in isolation — inconsistent menus, mismatched pricing, and no unified view of online performance.

04

Manual reservations & catering

Bookings for tables, catering, and private events were handled entirely by phone and WhatsApp — slow, error-prone, and impossible to scale during peak seasons like Ramadan.

05

Low digital discoverability

Search and social presence were limited, meaning new customers searching for Yemeni cuisine in KL often found competitors before they found Alkhair.

Alkhair's leadership recognized that authentic food deserved an equally authentic digital experience — one that respected its Arab heritage while meeting the operational standards of modern Malaysian F&B.

WellsGroup's Approach

WellsGroup applied its systems-first development model, treating Alkhair's digital operation as a long-term hospitality platform rather than a one-off website project. The brief was clear: build a system that makes ordering, booking, and discovering Alkhair feel effortless — in any language, on any channel.

The engagement began with a discovery phase mapping each customer journey: the Arab tourist searching in Arabic on their phone, the local family booking a Ramadan iftar, the office team ordering catering for a corporate event, and the late-night delivery customer browsing GrabFood. The platform was architected on WordPress with WPML for full trilingual support (English, Arabic, Malay) — including proper right-to-left rendering for Arabic — paired with a custom-built online ordering web application engineered separately to handle direct orders at restaurant-grade reliability.

Core principles guiding the approach:

01

Multilingual by design

English, Arabic, and Malay built into the core architecture — including proper RTL support for Arabic — not bolted on as a translation layer.

02

Direct-to-customer ordering

A custom-built ordering platform giving Alkhair a margin-protected, branded channel — no third-party commission, full customer relationship.

03

Omnichannel presence

Unified menu, pricing, and brand experience across the website, ordering app, and GrabFood, Foodpanda, and ShopeeFood listings.

04

Operations-first features

Reservations, catering enquiries, and event bookings handled through structured workflows that scale with the kitchen, not against it.

By aligning the digital experience with how Alkhair's customers actually eat — by language, by occasion, by channel — WellsGroup built a platform that grows the restaurant's reach without diluting its authenticity.

Solution Design & Implementation

The platform was delivered as a connected digital ecosystem combining a multilingual marketing site, a custom-built ordering application, and full integration with Malaysia's leading food delivery platforms.
